javea port promenadeThe port town of Javea is situated between Denia and Moraira on the Costa Blanca coast. It is the most easterly part of Spain and on a clear day it is possible to see the island of Ibiza from the Cabo San Antonio headland.

The town is divided into three distinct areas, the most well known being the Arenal which has a wide sandy beach with palm trees and a bustling promenade lined with cafes, bars and restaurants.  The Arenal can be busy with tourists in July and August but remains a popular place to pass the time out of season.

Crossing over the Canal de la Fontana and the entrance to the Arenal Marina you can see the Parador Hotel on the right, which remains one of the few tall structures in Javea.  The beach front Avenida del Mediterraneo takes you towards the Port area which is known for fine fish restaurants, the Playa de la Grava beach and the marina which is home to Javea's fishing fleet.  The port area has a long boulevard with cafes, shops and restaurants that look out over the bay towards the Balcon de Javea and the Cap de San Antoni lighthouse.

The narrow streets of Javea old townThe Balcon de Javea has rich woodland and is a popular picnic area with local people, there are sea views on both sides of the headland.  Next to this is La Corona, where some of the most valuable real-estate in Javea can be found.  Properties here generally have panoramic views over the Port and towards the Arenal with prices to match.

The third distinct area in Javea is the 'Old Town' or Pueblo which has the ancient fortified church of San Bartolome at the centre.  Market day is on a Thursday and seemingly takes over the whole town.  The church tower is the oldest structure in Javea dating back to the 12th Century.  The whole of the old town has recently undergone total renovation but has managed to retain much of it's original charm.  The narrow streets of the old town come alive during fiesta, the most important of which is the Fiesta of San Juan which takes place in June.
